As a player, Khomutov was a 3-time Olympic champion (1984, 1988, 1992), 7-time world champion, 8-time European champion, 9-time USSR champion with CSKA Moscow. Won the Canada Cup with the Soviet team in 1981.

KHL’s most decorated foreign coach, five-time Stanley Cup winner (with Pittsburg Penguins in 1991 and 1992, and with Detroit Red Wings in 1997, 1998 and 2002). Has 20-years NHL coaching experience, and was guiding Jagr Team in the 2009 All-Star game.

2009 Gagarin Cup runner-up, Russian championship silver (2008, 2009) and bronze (2005) medal winner. In total, this makes him the most consistent foreign coach in the KHL. Twice champion of Finland.
